James Maclin

James Maclin has blazed trails since his youth. Graduating from Covington High in 1988, Maclin played guard and defensive tackle in football (All South Honors and All-State); threw the shot put and discus in track (State Champion multiple years); was in the National Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America. He received several academic scholarships but wanted to continue playing football. Maclin’s agility on the field landed him an athletic football scholarship to the University of Memphis where he played offensive guard. A standout in academics and athletics, Maclin graduated with honors, earning his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and an MBA with a concentration in finance from Christian Brothers University.

With 20 years of experience in the apartment industry with a public real estate investment trust, Maclin and his wife started their own companies, M&M Enterprises LLC to focus on the real estate ventures and M&M Healthcare to focus on their healthcare related ventures. M&M Enterprises offers specialized services for multifamily real estate investment and operating processes including development, consulting, property management, asset management, and project management for clients in government, non-profit, and commercial atmospheres. The City of Memphis recently chose Maclin’s company to redevelop 18 acres of city-owned land at the Mid-South Fairgrounds. With projections of over $100M in private investment ($30M in Phase 1), the development will include apartments, retail space and a hotel in the heart of inner-city Memphis.

Maclin cherishes the love and support received from his hometown community while he stays involved through service to organizations such as the Memphis Housing Authority, Memphis Church Health Center, Memphis Light Gas and Water’s community advisory board, the University of Memphis Board of Visitors, Tiger Scholarship Foundation, the Board of Trustees for Christian Brothers University, and as Chairman of the Board for the Soulsville Foundation in Memphis. Maclin is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated and serves as a deacon and trustee at Greater Imani Church and Christian Center.
